fun license plates

With a little extra payment, some people make custom car license plates.  They often use simple words or family names, etc.  Other people use abbreviations implying long messages or words, because of the space limit (six or seven letters or numbers mixed, depending on the state you are in).
Some of these abbreviations are easy to understand, others are hard to guess (One fun activity on the road trip is to see these plates and interpret them as close as you can.).
Some are hilarious like the one below, others are very creative to show a message in it.

Many parents would agree with this plate, when kids drive them crazzyy. ^^!

One very interesting license plate I've witnessed during my recent road trip has these letters (unfortunately I did not carry a camera with me, so no image).

"GRN NRG" 

The first three letters was not hard to guess.  The second one?  Hmm.  After a moment of thinking, my best guess is: 'Green Energy'.  If I am right, I am so impressed that the owner of this plate elegantly used palindrome (read the same from forward or backward). I vote this one for the best so far.

so beautiful bug-3: snipe fly

While I was preparing a cookout for friends to visit, one black creature with a golden top flew nearby and caught my attention.

Who am I?  A buggologist. ^^

It did not fly well, so I caught it with fingers and put it on ice to immobilize it. Then I took several shots, one of which is shown here.

By looking at this, I was amazed by its beauty.  Black body with golden thorax and gray eyes.  The darkish wings have black veins.  Legs are a bit long; the femurs (the base segments) are black, but lower sections are lightly colored. The pointy abdomen is an identification key for this group of flies, called "snipe flies". 

Taxonomically, they belong to Order Diptera (meaning two winged bugs), Family Rhagionidae, Genus Chrysopilus.

Ahh. So beautiful!  Don't you agree?

오월도 후반 인데
시계가 꺼꾸로 가는지 며칠쩨 계속 쌀쌀한 가을날씨다.
구석에 처 박아논 긴 옷을 끄내 입고도

세포가 자살한다..  이건 또 뭔 전설따라 삼천리같은 소리여?

참말이랑께.  참말로 재미난 거슨 우리 몸의 세포들은 항상 죽을 채비를 하고 있다는 거시여 (by default).  평상시엔 death inhibitors 가 세포의 자살을 방지하는데, 만약에 어떤 시그날이 이 death inhibitors 를 방해하면, 곧바로 자살한다는 (Apoptosis) ㅠㅠ...

헌데 이들의 죽음은 우리의 삶에 꼬옥 필요하다는데, 이야기즉슨.....

한 예로 viral infection.
세포에 virus가 침투하면, 그 virus 는 세포안에서 증폭하여, 수십 수백만개의 복재 virus를 만들고, 이것들이 다시 2차 3차 .... 의 감염을 거치면서 병을 일으킨당께?
근디, 첫 번째 세포가 감염되자 마자 팍 죽어 뻐리면, virus는 미처 새끼를 만들어낼 시간이 없어, 2차 3차.. 감염의 확율이 줄어들 것 이라구만.

즉 세포가 '자살을 통해 온 몸을 살린다'는 살신성인의 모범을 보여주는 조은 예라구만.
건강하신 분들! 지금 이 순간에도  virus 로 부터 자신을 지켜주는 '자살세포'들에게 감사하시쇼, 잉?   =°|°=

semester is over (almost)! 종강이닷!!!

The spring semester began in the middle of January.

시작할땐 갑깝하더만, 버얼써 쫑강했군요.
낼모래 기말고사만 주고
채쩜하고 점수계산해서 올리면.. 끄읕! ㅎㅎ.  오메 존거.

한국같으면 쫑파티 한다고 이대, 숙대앞을 껄떡거리고 돌아다녔을 터인디..
이젠 늘거 주책바가지라는 소리듣기 딱 싶상인지라 행동거지를 조심 또 조심  ㅜㅜ.
아! 옛날이여~~~  (누가 불럿는데?)

오피쎨리 월급도 없는 써머동안도 졸라(내 자신이 점점 더 현대화 돼감을 느낌, ㅋㅋ) 바쁘게 일해야하니, 이것 참 ㅉㅉ. 그래도 '이팔짜 상팔짜'라 자위하고 싱그러운 오월엔 더 바빠봅쎄...... =°|°=

스톰 어갠 (Storm again)

올 봄은 유난히도 질퍽하군요.  일본지진의 영향인지 사흘이 멀다하고 폭풍을 동반한 비가 내림니다. 글쓰는 지금도 하늘이 시끄매지며 한바탕 퍼부을 기세군요.

너무 많아도 걱정 너무 적어도 걱정..

너무 많아도 걱정이 안되는 건 업쓸까요?  사람에 따라 환경에 따라 답은 다양하겠지요?
법정스님처럼 '무 소유'면 행복할까요?  인생은 어짜피 '공수래 공수거' 인데..

어제 매일이 하나 왔는데, 'Mobile Meal'이라는 기관에서 donation을 요청하는데, 돈은 음식을 만들수 없는 노인들께 실비로 meal and delivery 를 제공 하는데 쓰인다고요... 부자노인들은 물론 돈을내고요.  잠시 숙고를한뒤 약간의 $$를 보냈군요.  '앞으로 2-30년 뒤면 나도 필요할 텐데' 라는 생각에...

잔인한 사월 보내는 아쉬움에 몇자 끌쩍해 봄니다..  =°|°=

March Madness 2011

March Madness is Finally over!!!

U. Conn became a Men's Champ, and TAMU grabbed the Women's trophy.  Lots of upset in Men's competition was notable this year, as none of the first- and second-seed teams did not make the 'Final Four'.

In the case of Women's competition, U. Conn was the most favorite, but the team succumbed to second-seed Norte Dame at the semifinal game. TAMU, the school that I attended for my graduate degree, finally beat Baylor at Elite Eight game; they lost three times against Baylor during regular season. Then they marched to the championship game.

In sport games, I love to see upsets.  There are no absolute winners or losers in life.  Those who think are winners should bear in mind that they can be a loser someday.  So be humble.
Those who think are losers, should be excited and learned from these upsets.  They need to diagnose their weakness and work harder to overcome such obstacles. Someday, they will make an UPSET.
