so beautiful bug-14: dogbane beetles

Very hot sunny days without significant rains have been continuing for several weeks. > <
Come on.... We need rain!!

These beetles are popular during this time of the year.  They are named after their host plant, Dogbane.  Larvae of this species feed on the roots of this plant, and adult beetles on the leaves of the similar species.  Dogbanes are known to be invasive and poisonous.  So you can say that these beetles are beneficial for humans.

Adult beetles are small-to-medium size (about less than 1 Cm long).   Their armor (exoskeleton) is brilliantly metallic (greenish-bluish).

Phylogenetically they belong to: Order Coleoptera, Family Chrysomelidae.
Chrysomelidae is a fairly large family including a number of beetles feeding on the leaves.  So it is not surprising that some members in this family are serious pest.

Aren't they pretty?
