While I was reading books at Barns & Noble bookstore, I found an insect crawling awkwardly on the floor. Poor guy. It might have been attracted to light.
Who am I? A buggologist. ^^!
So I caught it in a plastic cup and brought it home for 증명사진 and examination.
This kind of insect is fairly big (~1 inch long) with metallic green color on the front wing, called elytra.
Ahh, so beautiful~~~. Isn't it? ~°|°~
In beetles (Order Coleoptera), the front pair of wings are modified into like hard shell to protect the body. So they fly only with hind wings that can be found under the elytra.

According to the bug guide, it is commonly called 'caterpillar hunter', so they are good ones (to us). They have big mandibles (like teeth) for grabbing and chewing the foods. Taxonomically they belongs to "Order Coleoptera: Family Carabidae (ground beetles)".
음. 딱정벌레류들은 귀엽기도 하고 징그럽지 않아 '아름다운 벌레들'에 동의할수 있어요. 애들 어릴때 집에서 장수풍뎅이를 키운적이 있었습니다. 여름휴가를 갈때도 계곡으로 가서 산책도 시키면서 정성껏 키우다 애들 수술로 몇달 집을 비운사이(물론 남편이 집에 있었음에도 불구하고)죽고말았죠. 제가 벌레라도 다 싫어하는것은 아니에요. 집에서 지렁이도 키워봤답니다. ㅋㅋ
ReplyDelete집에 나무상자를 싸서 흙과 지렁이를 넣고 집에서 나온 음식물찌꺼기들(물론 소금기 많은것은 제외)과 물을 줘가며 개체수가 얼마나 늘어나는지, 습도는 적당한지 애들이랑 관찰도 하기도 했지요. 애들 크고 나니 맨날 옛이야기 뿐이네요. ㅎㅎ
Hmm. You should try 'earthworm composting'. I was told that this is an excellent way of making compost with food scraps. And it helps your garden. 일석이조?? There are many websites for this.
ReplyDelete네, 저도 지금 거름을 어떻게 만들어 볼까? 하고 고민하고 있어요. 냄새가 나지 않고, 개미나 바퀴벌레같은것을 꾀지않으면서 지렁이를 키우며 음식물쓰레기도 줄이고 내 마당에 거름을 줄수 있는 일석이조가 아닌 일석 몇조 효과를 볼수 있는 방법이요. 제가 마당있는 집을 직접가꿔보지 않았고, 우리집이 25년정도 된 집이고, 혹시 개미같은것에 우리집이 무너지면 어쩌나 하는 '공포영화를 너무많이본' (거기에 우리집 마당과 맞닿은 집에 있는 어마어마하게 큰 뽕나무 뿌리가 우리집을 망가뜨리면 어찌가 하는 ㅠ.ㅠ) 무식한 걱정을 자주하는 덕에 쉽게 실행에 옮기지 못하고 있습니다. ㅎㅎ
